Instructions for off-campus access to ArtStor

Off-campus access to ArtStor requires that your browser configuration and Java plug-in be set to certain specifications. After you have verified that your computer settings are as described below, use this link to acess ArtStor. Instructions for these settings are given for Internet Explorer 6.0 and Netscape 8.0 and 7.2 and the Java plug-in .

Internet Explorer:

  • From the "tools" drop-down menu, select "internet options"
  • Select the "Connections" tab in the pop-up window
  • Click the "LAN Settings" button (towards the bottom of the window, right side)
  • In the LAN Settings pop-up window:
    • check (enable)"automatically detect settings"
    • check "use automatic configuration script"
    • in the address box for automatic configuration, enter the following:
      http://library.acaweb.org:8080/proxy.pac
  • Click the "OK" button on the LAN Settings window
  • Click the "Apply" button on the Internet Options window


Netscape 8.0:

  • From the "Tools" drop-down menu, select "Options"
  • On the "General" screen, click the "Connection Settings" button
  • Select the radio button "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL" and enter the following in the associated box:
    http://library.acaweb.org:8080/proxy.pac
  • Click the "Reload" button
  • Click the "OK" button
  • Click the "OK" button on the General Options screen

Netscape 7.2
  • From the "Edit" drop-down menu, select "Preferences" and expand the triangle to the left of "Advanced"
  • Click on "Proxies"
  • Select the radio button for "Automatic Proxy Configuration Unit
  • Select the radio button "Automatic Proxy Configuration URL" and enter the following in the associated box:
    http://library.acaweb.org:8080/proxy.pac
  • Click the "Reload" button and then the "OK" button

Java Plug-in on Windows XP

  • Click on "Start"
  • Select "Settings" and then "Control Panel"
    (if "Control Panel is an option from the Start menu, go directly to that)
  • Open the "Java Plug-in" menu (for most people, this means double-clicking the Java Plug-in icon)
  • For verson 1.4:
    • Click on the "Advanced" tab
    • In the "Java Runtime Parameters box (at the bottom of the pop-up window), enter the following:
      –Dhttp.proxyHost=library.acaweb.org –Dhttp.proxyPort=8080
      Note that the line begins with a dash, and the only space is between the "org" and the second dash.
    • Click "Apply"
    • Click on the "Cache" tab at the top of the Java Plug-in window
    • Click "Clear' and "Yes"
    • Close the screen
  • For version 1.5
    • Click on the "Java" tab
    • Click on the "View" button associated with the "Java Applet Runtime Settings"
    • In the Java Runtime Parameters box (at the bottom of the pop-up window), enter the following:
      –Dhttp.proxyHost=library.acaweb.org –Dhttp.proxyPort=8080
      Note that the line begins with a dash, and the only space is between the "org" and the second dash.
    • Click "OK"
    • Click "Apply" on the previous (larger) window
