MISSION STATEMENT
(Revised February 2003)
The Carson-Newman
College Division of Library Services provides services, resources,
and facilities to support excellence in teaching, learning,
and research for the College community. The Library faculty,
support staff, and student assistants work together to accomplish
this mission by:
- Providing
students and faculty access to information resources, regardless
of source or format, which support and enhance the institutional
purpose of the College.
- Facilitating
the development of lifelong learners by preparing students
for a world that increasingly depends on information. This
preparation includes but is not limited to:
- Encouraging
students to develop the skills necessary for the effective
and ethical use of information.
- Impressing
on students the importance of evaluating information used
in making their personal decisions as well as their academic
and professional decisions.
- Collecting
and preserving historical materials related to Carson-Newman
College, the Appalachian region, and to the Baptists of East
Tennessee and the world.
- Collaborating
with the campus community to identify and enhance library
services.
- Participating
actively and fully in the academic process by working with
faculty in all disciplines and serving on various committees.
- Creating
a helpful, non-threatening environment for library patrons.
- Making
library resources available for personal and spiritual enrichment
and recreation.
- Incorporating
new technologies where appropriate to improve instruction
and services.
- Serving
as a campus resource for personal assistance with educational
technology.
- Cooperating
with other libraries, organizations, and consortia to improve
resources and services.
- Serving
as an information resource for the surrounding community.
