Overdue
& Lost Material
Fines
Fines for overdue materials are calculated according to the

checked-out under their name, so you should not lend your card to anyone.
Please note that some items are fined on a "per hour" basis, while others are charged per day.
| General stacks (books) |
25 cents per day per book; $10 maximum per item |
| Reserve materials: one-hour |
25 cents per hour per item; $10 maximum per item |
| Reserve materials: one, three, & 7 day |
$1.00 per day per item; $10 maximum per item |
| Periodicals |
$1.00 per day per item; $10 maximum per item |
| Audio Visual Materials |
$1.00 per day per item; $10 maximum per item |
| Lost Library Card |
$2* |
*Note: This is for replacement of special
patron library cards ONLY. Carson-Newman ID card replacements
must be obtained through the Student Affairs Office.
Lost Materials
Patrons will be notified by e-mail (or "snail-mail" if e-mail is unavailable) of books and other materials
which are overdue. Six overdue notices are automatically generated
by the circulation system. At the end of each semester, items
still not returned will be declared lost, and the patron to
whom the materials were lent will be charged the sum of the
current replacement cost plus a service charge of $10 per item plus the $10 maximum fine which will have accrued .
When the current cost of an item is not available, an average
cost of $50 per item is used.
Charges for items declared lost are sent to the Business Office
for collection, but if the items are returned, the library will
have the replacement cost and processing fee removed. The patron will still need to pay the library for overdue fines that have accrued. The catalog record for items declared
lost will indicate that in the location field of the online catalog record for one semester
after the charge has been sent to the Business Office. After
that time, the lost items will be withdrawn from the catalog.
(The location missing is used for items unaccounted
for during library inventory or other library activities, and
should not be confused with the lost designation.)
Periodicals declared "lost" are purged annually.
