Circulating Collection & Government Documents
The Librarys circulating collection of books (books that you may check out) is split between two floors. The first floor contains the 000s through the 700s, the fiction collection (call numbers beginning with the letter F), juvenile books (call number J), juvenile fiction (JF), and anthologies of short stories (SC). The 800s and the 900s are located on the main floor. Library materials circulate for different lengths of time depending on the type of material and the category of borrower. (See loan periods and fine schedules.)
The Stephens-Burnett Library is fortunate to be a United States Government Documents Depository Library. We are a selective depository in that we acquire approximately 1/4 of everything the U.S. Government publishes each year. That translates into a substantial amount of information in a wide variety of subject areas including business, health, science, education, history, and of course, government.
Most of the government documents are shelved on the east end of the first floor by the Superintendent of Documents call number. (Turn right at the bottom of the main stairs.) Other selected titles which we receive free of charge through our Depository status are cataloged and integrated into the regular collection or the periodicals collection.
